Here are a few of my favorite setups: when there is a big gap up with a large upward bar with huge volume, when there is a breakout from a former trend, when a trend is starting, when I think that the smart money knows something that we don't ( i.e. when a stock has a sudden run up, despite bad news or earings.

what type of stocks in general do you look for. to give you an example of what i mean - price above 20, optionable, average volume +1,000,000 a day.

That is how I choose a stock, when the trend start, for example, when the stochastic crossover and get off oversold area-Bullish is starting.
