Here is how the different market sectors performed.

It it not a surprise that all sectors have lost $$$ this past week, month and year to date.

On Friday, services did break even.

The other thing to note is that Technology and Services are losing less $$$ over the 1 month, 1 week and 1 day graphs.

Could these sectors emerge from this recession and become early winners?

I'm also watching the technology sector, such as CRM salesforce 2 days ago. Microsoft and Google could be a long term investment.

you provide useful information, thanks. From the year to date chart, basic material looks a better sector for investing now. I will not think about to invest in financial area in current market.

Thanks albertan,

I am glad that you find some of what post useful. I have learned a lot from participating in the forum and I am glad to contribute. I really appreciate how we are all just trying to help each other make more money faster.

I think that I feel like you do about the financial sector. That it is probably an area that can see a lot of movement. It just seems to me that it is currently too dependent on news out of Washington.

I agree with albertan, your posts are very informative and detailed. It is important to know which sectors are performing well relatively to the others under any circumstance. By the way, do you look at economic indicators when picking stock?

Thanks uniqueA,

I realize that economic indicators can impact stock prices. Right now, I mainly focus on the technicals. I do like to look at the fundamentals.

It is a good idea to be knowledgeable about economic indicators.

Below is a link to an economic calendar for the week. There are some items that could impact the market like Personal Income & Outlays, the Mfg Index on Monday; Motor Vehicle Sales, Pending Home sales on Tuesday; Jobless claims on Thursday; and the Employment situation on Friday.

I noticed the Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims published every Thursday (8:30 AM EST) effects Dow a lot. When claims go up, dow usually drop. Here is an old link I read at dojispace about economic indicators.

Here is how the different market sectors performed week ending 3/06/09

It is interesting that Healthcare has consistently a top one or two performer through all but the 1 month graph.
It is also interesting to note that on an up day it is the Conglomerates followed by Healthcare leading the charge.
I noticed that on Wednesday, when we were up, Basic Materials also had a good day.

We will get a correction in the market at some point. These could be areas that could lead the pack if we do.

How do you post images? I'd like to post a chart of how the sectors stacked up against the S&P throughout the day, but can't paste the image into the post.

Sunset, I use the web site that Babyblubabeo suggested. Another member (dudu, if I remember correctly) first told me about it.

You will need to save the image to a file (word file).

Then, go to http://tinypic.com/ and click on 'choose image'

That will bring up your files and you click on the file and hit 'choose'

Now click on 'upload now'

if that is successful, then there will be 4 links to select from.

Simply copy the link from 'IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards' and paste it in your post.

Hint - I always preview my posts before posting, just to make sure the image looks good, etc.

Good luck with this. I am looking forward to your posts. Since I am a visual learner, I really enjoy the graphs.

Dow rally for 1 day, and then drop for a week.

You may be right. The Dow's candlestick today looked like a gravestone Doji.

Some of what will happen depends on if the market likes the news regarding mark-to-market reporting being discussed up on capital hill tomorrow.

Yah, I guess we need to be cautious of the doji tomorrow. If dow rise over 100 points tomorrow, then it will be a good sign.

----------------------------------------------> A Look At The Sectors Week Ending 3/13/09 <-------------------------------------------------

It is interesting to note that while the markets were going down, Healthcare was taking the smallest beating.
But for the run we had last we, Financials and Conglomerates lead the way.
Yet on Friday the 13th, Healthcare was the winner and Conglomerates came in last.
